Energiepark Bad Lauchstädt
Sub-project: Conversion of a 25 km long natural gas pipeline to H2
- H2 transport pipeline to go into operation in April 2025
- Blueprint for converting a natural gas pipeline to hydrogen
- Overall project covers the entire H2 value chain
- Under construction since September 2021, completion at the end of 2025
- Preparation of H2 storage (2nd phase: GO!)
- First real-world laboratory of the energy transition under construction with FID
First German real-world laboratory for the energy transition in realization
In the Energiepark Bad Lauchstädt real-world laboratory, we are working with partners to investigate the entire value chain from production, transportation and storage through to the use of green hydrogen. ONTRAS began converting the first natural gas pipelines to transport pure hydrogen as early as 2021. With this project, we are working together for a future-oriented hydrogen region in Central Germany – and for successful sector coupling beyond the borders of Central Germany. With the commissioning of the 25-kilometer pipeline from the Bad Lauchstädt energy park to the customer in the Leuna chemical park, ONTRAS has put the first section of the hydrogen core network in eastern Germany into operation.
The Energiepark Bad Lauchstädt under the leadership of VNG is still the first real laboratory of the energy transition to be realized, for which a final investment decision has been made by all consortium partners.
