FNB Gas on the EnWG amendment to strengthen consumer protection in the energy sector and to amend other energy law regulations

On August 6, the German government launched the draft bill for an amendment to the Energy Industry Act (EnWG). Consultations are currently taking place in the German Bundestag. Among other things, it concerns the acceleration of planning and approval procedures in the context of grid expansion.

FNB Gas supports the planned amendment of the EnWG to speed up planning and approval procedures, but points out the need for further improvement.

Specifically, the transmission system operators are in favour of deleting the reference to state expropriation regulations (Section 44b (8) EnWG) in order to ensure uniform application of the law throughout Germany and for a tightening of the regulations on protective and security measures (Section 49c EnWG) in order to effectively accelerate the implementation of protective and security measures as part of the increased utilization of the electricity transmission grid.
