We are planning to implement 35 new construction and conversion projects with a total of around 1,100 kilometers of pipeline as part of the H2 core network. In this way, we want to connect industry and SMEs in North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony and make an important contribution to the decarbonization of energy-intensive sectors of the economy.

The starting point is our existing natural gas network, which we will convert specifically for hydrogen transportation in the coming years and expand with new H2 pipelines. This will gradually create the necessary infrastructure for the gas of the future: hydrogen.

We have initially identified seven regional hydrogen clusters in close dialog with customers and local market participants. In our view, these focus regions are particularly suitable as nuclei for initiating the development towards an integrated H2 infrastructure.

Lower Rhine H2 cluster
The Lower Rhine region between Emmerich, Xanten, Wesel, Voerde and Duisburg is home to numerous energy and emissions-intensive companies. They want to use green hydrogen to complete the transformation to sustainability in the coming years. More information

H2 Cluster Middle Lower Rhine
The Middle Lower Rhine region is also on its way to the H2 future. Many companies in the Krefeld, Neuss and Düsseldorf area would like to convert their energy-intensive processes to hydrogen in the coming years. More information

H2 Cluster Cologne
Many well-known chemical and industrial companies are based in the greater Cologne area. They are united by a high energy demand and thus a great potential for CO2 savings. To ensure that the hydrogen required for this is available promptly, we are linking the Cologne cluster to the Zevenaar border crossing point (Netherlands) and the cluster of the GET H2 initiative. H2 cluster Ruhr area
Thyssengas is a child of the Ruhr area. A large part of our pipelines are located here. This is where we are at home. We have always been a partner to industry and SMEs by ensuring a reliable energy supply via our long-distance pipeline network. More information

Bentheim-Westmünsterland H2 cluster
In the Bentheim-Westmünsterland cluster, our planning focuses on supplying SMEs and distribution grid operators as well as the high-capacity import pipelines for hydrogen. The GET H2 initiative is a fundamental cornerstone of this supply. More information

H2 Cluster Münster-Hamm
The Westphalia region is home to many companies from industry and SMEs. They are looking for ways to use hydrogen to make their gas-based or, in some cases, coal- or oil-based production processes climate-neutral. This is where we want to lay the foundation for the hydrogen supply of the Münsterland and the Westphalia region. More information

H2 Cluster North Hesse
Medium-sized companies and distribution network operators (DSOs) in North Hesse in particular need a perspective on their path to climate neutrality. Our Werne-Eisenach pipeline project is the centerpiece of the Northern Hesse cluster and creates the ideal conditions for bringing hydrogen to the region and supplying the local grid operators.
